Service Description:

Early travel routes, these were some of the first main roads in the United States. These are the routes and highways in Kansas according to the State Highway Commission Map of 1918. The 1918 Map was georeferenced and digitized, and road names were filled in and cross referenced with AAA maps showing named routes from the same era.

In some cases, the routes split, or there are conflicts between sources of where the named route should be located. This is the nature of the road system in 1918 before the numbered highway system. Confusion over the named routes and signage partly led to the adoption of a numbered route system.
