Service Description: The Kansas Department of Transportation (“KDOT”) collects and compiles Kansas motor vehicle crash information. The data contained in this map layer is based on crash reports produced by law enforcement and submitted to KDOT. The layer contains 2019-2023’s fatal and serious injury crash data as of 1/8/25. Once a complete year of crash data is received and processed through the KDOT system, the most recent year of data will be added. A crash report is only submitted to KDOT if a crash resulted in a fatality, injury, over $1000 worth of property damage, and/or if there is damage to KDOT property.KDOT does not receive this information in “real time.” Instead, crash reports are submitted after the crash has been investigated by the responding law enforcement officer. Law enforcement officers are then responsible for submitting the crash reports described above to KDOT within ten (10) days after investigation of the crash. As some investigations can take longer to complete, some crash reports will not be sent to KDOT within ten days.KDOT is not responsible for the accuracy of crash data and makes no claims as to the accuracy of the crash locations as shown on this map layer. For the most complete accounting of crashes at a location, data users are encouraged to submit an open records request. The Safety Data Section within the Bureau of Transportation Safety is the state's repository for all motor vehicle crashes on public roadways. More information about KDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety can be found at the following URL: Safety Data | Kansas Department Of Transportation
